ABOUT TACU

WHO WE ARE

We are a community and tenants union, committed to supporting one another in our everyday lives. We are workers, renters, carers and members of the community across Lancaster and Morecambe. We know that many of the problems we experience – rising rents, low wages, environmental destruction – are the result of an unequal system that puts profit before people. We believe that the key to improving our lives lies in taking action together, making use of our collective resources to challenge exploitative bosses, rip-off landlords, and power holders who too easily overlook us when we act alone.

WHAT WE DO

We fight for a better life for our members and our community. We take collective action to challenge and expose those who put the interests of profit before the interests of working class people - from confronting landlords exploiting our members, to defending our public services from cuts and closures. We know that this often means taking direct action as traditional routes to challenging power, such as through courts or complaints procedures, are often skewed against ordinary people. We also stand against racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia and all other types of discrimination. We know that these forms of discrimination threaten to divide us and undermine our collective power.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED

Anyone can join who is committed to the principles of solidarity, care, and collective action for justice that form the basis of our union. We are a membership organisation, run by and for its members, in an open and democratic way. Members pay a monthly fee depending on income, which is used to defend members, fund campaigns and support actions. Members of the union support each other to take on power holders affecting their lives, and are supported in turn. All have an equal say in how our union organises.
