We are a membership organisation, run by and for its members. The more of us that work together, the more power we have to make change. We each pay a monthly fee which is used to defend members, fund campaigns and support actions.

Membership dues are on a sliding scale based on your income. The standard membership rate is one hour’s wage per month (ie. if you earn £8 an hour, you pay £8 per month).

Members can also pay these concession rates:

  • £5 part-time worker or student

  • £3 unwaged

  • £0 no funds

As a community, the Tenants and Community Union is committed to keeping the information our members and supporters share with us safe and secure in line with the Data Protection Act (1998) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Our data privacy promise

We will always do our very best to keep your data safe and secure. We will never share your data with any third party without your consent.

How we use your data

We collect information about contact details, address and so on so that we can stay in touch with our members and supporters and let them know about the activities of the union and how to get involved.

We collect very basic information about the housing situation of our members (e.g. type of tenancy, name of landlord) so that we can build an accurate picture of our membership. It is not necessary to provide this type information in order to become a member of participate in the Tenants and Community Union.

Where a member shares with us information about their housing problems so that we can provide them with member support, we will store that information in accordance with this privacy notice but it will only be viewable by a very limited number of people.

Emails, text messages and phone calls

We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our email newsletter and updates about our activities. You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time of the day or night by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or by emailing our data protection officer by writing to info@tacu.org.uk with the subject 'data protection'.

We occasionally also use phone calls and text messages to contact our members and supporters who have given their consent to be contacted in this way. If you do not wish to be contacted in this way, please email info@tacu.org.uk with the subject 'NOTEXT'.
